Its me fonzie again!
The title of this is called Chronicles of Fate. Just like Goddesses of Lunar Advent, this one is a fantasy. Anyhow, its about a man named Kaito, his team of friends known as a whole as Vox. Kaito and his friends are young adults, and are surrounded by governmental disputes.
Due to the horrible events that happend at age 12, the murding of his parents before his very eyes, Kaito has formed a group to fight against the government. The government is very corrupt, and are after the marks known as ciels. These marks are the witness to what has transpired over the years, and are special due to the fact that the individuals soul is closer to the world then that of most people.
The story is one that I had to revise completely. It was a different story that it was now, and had to completely redo it. by redo it, I had to erase fourteen chapters of a novel I had written. But, in return, I became more satisfied with the story now, and was able to connect with its characters more.
I hope you enjoy. As usual, feedback and such is greatly appreciated!
Chapter 1
One’s destiny is fragmented by reason, engaged by sorrow underneath the stern resolve of revenge. The fate of Alecone is about to reawaken as the wheels of time turn once more.
A man slowly opened his eyes as he arose from his bed. He touched his chest, placing his hand upon his heart. “Not again.” Upon opening his eyes, he pulled up his white sleeve, gazing at the carved scar engraved on the upper corner of his arm. I cannot believe that I still recall dreams within my mind about that horrible day. Seems like my mother and father were trying to tell me something, what, I really don’t understand just yet. This ciel … the knowledge I hold is still very little…. The man sighed, bringing his hand slowly away from his chest.
“Kato, you awake in there?” A man knocked firmly against Kato’s bedroom door.
“One moment,” Kato stood up, taking his leather jacket from the railings at the head of the bed. He brought the jacket over his back as he began to put it on. “Come in.”
Takumi, wearing a brown cloak, entered Kato’s room. He saluted him as he came towards the bed. Walking in, the dim light shone upon his face, uncovered a patch on his right cheek. “Kato, remember we are supposed to meet Natsuki at her place. She said she was working late tonight, and wanted us to drop by.”
Kato pulled back his long, straight-black hair, gazing into the blade hanging on the left wall near his bed. Staring at the blade, a feeling of calmness overtook him, as if the blade reminded him of a happier time in his past life. He grasped the sheath encasing the blade, placing it on his back.
“I didn’t forget, don’t worry. I was just taking a refreshing nap before we left.”
Takumi spoke softly, “Been having the same dream again?”
Kato hesitated, as if not wanting to admit or accept what still lingered in his mind. “Well, oddly enough, yeah. I thought my mind had completely erased itself of that dreadful day. What about yourself? Still seeing the same visions of that day in your mind, Takumi?”
Takumi looked down. “My friend, I don’t think that day will ever leave me. I think about it from time to time, but I have no choice but just to press forward.”
“Well, why don’t we head out? I am sure Natsuki wouldn’t want us to be late. Besides, you know I’m not the type to dwell on the past all day. My mother always smiled, and even in times of plight she always tried to look on the bright side of impossible odds.” Kato walked forward, diverting his attention towards the door of his room.
Takumi smiled, “That’s just like you, Kato. Always pushing forward, being stubborn as usual. Well let’s head out then.”
Both Kato and Takumi had been involved in a horrible twist of fate. At that time, a war known as Twin Bloods was a great trauma to the many citizens of Alecone. During that fateful day, both Kato and Takumi’s parents had been plagued by the Phailanx Government. At the time, Kato and Takumi were only twelve and couldn’t grasp the nature of what was going on. All Kato knew was his father was badly injured as he was fighting off members of the government. His mother wore a tired look, blood oozing from her right arm. Her veil had been stained a crimson red from the blood. As she walked toward her son, she spoke in a frail tone: “Remember the ciel, Kato.” Before Kato knew it, he was flung out of his parents’ sight and onto the streets. All Kato could remember was seeing his upper right arm bleeding profusely, the look upon his mother’s face with her hands close to her chest, and crying as his body hit the street. Kato stood up, noticing his friend Takumi, and walked towards him. Takumi seemed lifeless, bleeding on his right cheek. Since that day, Kato and Takumi had been under the custody of the Takoshida family.
Walking out of Kato’s room, he and Takumi went through the living room. They passed several round couches against a wall, heading towards an open room that led outside.
Walking into the garage, Kato placed his hand on a dark blue Souler that was parked in the center of the large room. He released the lock that bound the bike on the ground, bringing his left leg over the seat. As he sat down, he pushed the pedal with his foot. Kato looked towards his right, as Takumi sat down on his crimson red Souler.
The Souler was an advanced bike decorated with titanium metal. The technology was made by Takoshida Labs. Each Souler held a soul that bonded with the individual who used it. Depending on the mood of the person, the tint of the color would change. Its power is derived from the individual who used it. When someone starts up their bike, their soul was automatically linked with the bike, infusing it with the power to heed to the user’s call.
“You ready Kato?” Takumi pushed his pedal as his bike began to start up.
“Kato smiled, “Ready as I will ever be. Nothing like a night out. By the way, have you heard from Katsuya and the lab lately?”
“Not at all. Surely Katsuya will call soon, though. Wonder if he has another job lined up for us?”
Both engines began echoing through the garage, recognizing Kato and Takumi’s
Call of need. Kato’s bike began emanating a bright blue light surrounding its bike, while Takumi’s emanated a bright crimson red color. The bright color expressed the happiness they felt at the time, as well as the urge of getting ready for the night’s events.
Kato pushed his pedal harder, and the sound of his bike echoed through the garage. “Who knows? If we end up having a job, it will be good for the exercise. Besides, I’ve been dying to show you some new tricks I’ve learned, and I think Vergus here would be happy to see what I have picked up over the last several weeks.”
Vergus was the name that Kato called his Souler, indicating that he had bonded with it, and that it had a close place in his heart. Vergus was also the name of his father’s council, whom he knew little about. The name itself just felt right to him. A name that helped him to remember the memories of his father when he was alive.
Takumi smirked. “Well then, I get to show you some of my new tricks as well. I believe Sunder would also appreciate the night out. Besides, he has been pinned down here for quite some time, and a night out will do him good.”
Sunder was the name of a pet wolf Takumi had. The wolf died long ago, before Takumi was ten. The wolf was temperamental at times, but always presented a wise council to Takumi. The name felt close to his heart, so, like Kato, it felt right to deem his Souler just that.
Kato brushed back his black hair once more, “Well, time to go. Don’t want to keep your lovely girl waiting, you know.”
Takumi arched an eyebrow, speaking in an irritated tone. “Don’t go spreading that across the entire city, you hear? The fact that you know is enough for me to stand.” He sighed, “Well, alright then, let’s move out.” As they both pressed down on their pedals, they gripped their handles tightly and began riding into the night.
Kato lived in Somber City. It was a city that always held loud nights, had events going on, and nights that seemed long and drawn out. Most of the residents traveled by Soulers that were manufactured by other companies like the Takoshida Labs. The city itself was always very vibrant, and when night fell, lights of all kinds could be seen throughout the city. One thing was for certain—Somber City never had a dull moment.
Kato’s residence was located on 54th H Block, which was a major connector towards the Beurro Night Highway. His main block was over populated with many small businesses, and his residence was the only living quarters within the district. Kato never complained, though, as most nights in his area were quiet and never brought out packs of crowds.
Riding through the streets, Kato looked at a screen that was placed at the helm of his Souler. On the left side of the screen, several buttons could be seen. Kato pressed a crimson red button, signifying Takumi’s bike. Upon pressing the button, he had a view of Takumi’s upper body. Such communication was easy to manage, since speaking into the screen could relay conversation through a speaker located under the screen
Kato spoke, looking ahead towards the road in front of him. “Think Natsuki will want to join us if a job comes up?”
Takumi glanced at his screen, noticing Kato’s face appear. “Anything is possible. Would be good to have her join up with us again. She puts in long hours at the bar, and it would do her some good to get some exercise. Besides, the fact that she is living with us gives her a better reason to help us fight against ARMS.”
Kato sighed. “No kidding. The recent uprisings against rebel groups have been pretty frequent of late. Plus, they’ve been all over the media from information we spilled out about Phailanx wanting to provide a high military presence around Alecone.
Takumi nodded, “Well someone had to notify the governor of Somber City what was happening. If it weren’t for information being leaked out, we wouldn’t have been able to report. With the government still trying to recover from the war several years back, I believe our government will always remain under a state of urgency.”
Kato turned his head, looking at the many signs he passed. As he turned back, he glanced at the screen once more, noticing Takumi fiddling with his patch. “Well all we know for certain is that Phailanx is after users of the ciels.”
Takumi tugged at his patch covering the lower right portion of his face. The leathered felt patch was hooked onto the back of his right earlobe. He lifted his patch up, revealing a scar that was similar to Kato’s. “Well at least your scar is on your arm. Try having one on the right side of your face.” He lowered the patch down, and it firmly fastened itself to his skin.
Kato laughed calmly, “That’s just like you, pointing out the differences between each of us. Try having a ciel where Natsuki has... and then complain to me about having one on your face.”
Takumi looked bewildered, staring at the road ahead. His face flushed with anger, “How the hell did you know of something like that…? I thought I was the only one who knew. Damn you Kato, stop peeking into matters that do not concern you.”
Kato looked at the open road intently, “It’s not my fault that she bears a scar with a spot such as hers. Hey, at least it’s covered. Besides, she surely doesn’t mind over the huge one that you bear on your face.”
Takumi murmured, “Whatever….”
Traveling through the night, they passed several signs of neon lights along the way. Natsuki’s Bar was not close by any means. It was located in the middle of the town on Twilight Avenue. Getting there took about fifteen minutes. They had to pass through Beurro Night Highway, head through Sylph Road; take a right on Nockers Fray, and then turn left onto Twilight Avenue.
Kato looked ahead, noticing the letters from a yellow neon sign that read Sylph Road. “Almost halfway there. Sometimes I wish Natsuki lived in the business district. It would be a lot closer than driving all the way towards Twilight Avenue.” He put a hand into his pocket, pulling out a small silver pocket watch device. “The V-Kom says it’s about half past eight. We still have another seven minutes until we get there.”
V-Kom was a small device that kept track of the time digitally, but also bore a communication circuit to reach people within the city. Usually, people assigned contacts via voice command, and just pressed the corresponding button for which they wanted to contact.
Kato looked to his left, as he passed the neon sign. He noticed a group of three kids with black jackets standing in front of a sign that read “Faze Gun Corner.” They each shouted, “Support the resistance against the government!”
Kato smiled, “Well kids, today is your lucky day; I have some spare change on me.” He placed his hand inside his right coat pocket, producing a shiny jagged silt. “There you go. Just don’t spend it on porn or anything like that. We have enough of you kids begging for money to buy the stuff with. Hell if you want porn, find other ways to get around it.” He flipped the coin from his fingers. The coin spun high into the air, twinkling in the night sky.
“Takumi lets speed up shall we? We should be coming up to a right turn pretty soon.”
Takumi nodded in approval. “Kind today, aren’t we?”
Kato smirked, “Yeah right, the stuff burns a hole in my pocket sometimes, and I’d
Rather get rid of it than lose it to some punk from ARMS.”
Takumi laughed, “Good point.”
As they sped through the streets, they heard screams behind them.
“It’s mine, you here!”
“Move, I saw it first.”
“How about we fight for it?”
The kids could be heard cursing at each other, trying to take hold of the jagged
Piece of currency.
Turning slowly left, Kato could see women’s clothing stores located on both sides
Of the streets. Nockers Fray was known for the expensive, provocative clothing it sold. Passing N’s Fray, they heard a promiscuous voice announcing herself over a PA. “Leather clothing on sale, make sure to stop by and bring the fantasy to all your guy friends.” Her voice echoed through the street.
Takumi looked to his left, noticing the Neon sign. The sign bore two melons decorated with leather coverings. A blue lit up N could be seen between the melons. To the right was the rest of the name, ‘s Fray. “That store always brings in quite the crowd doesn’t it?” Takumi’s eyes were still fixated on the sign, as he passed the store.
“Get your head out of the gutter. Your girl has quite the figure. So you shouldn’t
have to stare at other people’s melons.” Kato looked ahead, noticing the left turn to Twilight Avenue.
Takumi spoke in a flustered tone once more. “Kato quit your yapping, I was only
saying…!”
Kato laughed, “At least you give some entertainment.”
They sped faster, noticing the turn towards Twilight Avenue. Upon turning, Kato’s eye caught a purple sign that shone brightly, overflowing the street with its vibrant light. The letters were stylized in a woman’s cursive handwriting.
“Here we are… Natsuki’s bar.” Kato looked up at the sign, parking his Souler to
the right of the street. Takumi followed behind, noticing the flowered decorated glass doors. He parked his bike left of Kato’s.
“Well, well, Natsuki’s place always looks very nice. Hers is the only bar that has
flowers decorated on its door.” Kato pointed at the doors. He scanned them a bit longer, noticing a blue floral design on the borders of the door. “Quite the girl you have. Dressing up her bar the way she does.”
Takumi commended his friend with a smile. “You know Tsuki, always doing her
best to look good at what she does. Got to give her credit though, the tasteful nature she has goes with the theme of her bar.”
“Ain’t it the truth? I could really go for an Iris Elixir about now…”
Iris Elixir was one of Kato’s favorite drinks. It was a mixture of sweet nectar,
dark blue alcohol, mixed with the petals of a flowered iris, and a blend of blueberries.
Takumi nodded his head. “Tsuki sure does a good job with all the drinks she
makes. Since we started living together, we’ve been coming here more often. I think it’s good for us.”
Inside the bar, many glass tables could be seen scattered throughout. Each was
decorated with a glass flower in the middle of the table top. Each was of a different color, adding a touch of beauty to the atmosphere. The main bar counter could be seen across the room. The color was similar to the new border shading of the door, an azure blue, giving a tint of elegancy. An aroma of flower essences filled the room with a scent of blooming life. As Kato and Takumi walked on top of the glass floor boards, they could hear footsteps echoing through the walls.
Walking towards the bar countertop, Kato noticed an open door. “Tsuki must be cleaning up to close for the night. It doesn’t look like she’s going to get anymore customers this evening.” Takumi placed his elbow on top of the glass countertop, gazing towards the opened door. “Seems like she is having a good smoke tonight. At least her breath won’t smell bad. Glad she doesn’t smoke anything that smells awful.”
Kato looked around. “Wonder if she heard us come in.” He quickly turned his
head, glancing at Takumi, who stood to his right.
“Evening boys.” A woman’s voice could be heard from the back room. “I was
preparing something for you two. Hold on one minute, I will be right out.” Her voice was very charming, expressing her kind but unpredictable character.
She walked into the bar from the back room. She wore a dark blue wraparound
dress fanning down to her knees. Her hair was a lavender color, extending beyond her hips. She was a woman endowed with great beauty and blessed with a nice figure.
She appeared in front of Kato and Takumi, holding two glasses of a dark blue
liquid. “Two Iris elixirs coming your way.” She set the drinks on top of the countertop, tilting her face in Takumi’s direction. As she leaned forward, her dress slipped down from a little, whereupon a flower-like scar could be seen directly in the middle of her chest.
“Thanks a lot Tsuki, I really needed this.” Kato clasped the wine glass, bringing
it to his lips. As he took a drink, his facial expression bore a gleeful smile, delighted at the taste entering his mouth. Putting the glass down, he noticed Natsuki bent over, looking towards Takumi.
Takumi followed his friend, gulping down the sweet elixir. “Thanks, doll. I see
you cleaned the place up early—any reason why?”
Natsuki brushed her hair, straightening up into an upright position. “Seems like
work will get harder to manage now that we are all over the media. Would love to stay open past twelve, but for now I’m closing when customers die down. It might be bad on my part, but I am also one who bears a ciel, so I must be on my guard at all times. Plus, it seems like Katsuya is giving us more frequent jobs lately.”
Kato sighed, “Yeah, seems like we will be busy for a while. Ever since we
formed VOX, we have been the target of government action. Not to mention all the trouble we have been causing. If it weren’t for the Phailanx Government trying to dwindle the town’s atmosphere, we would have not stepped in.”
Takumi took one last gulp of his drink, setting it down on top of the counter.
“Well, remember, we only started VOX not too long ago, so we are still fairly new. We are just more active then most groups.”
Kato nodded. He took one more drink, setting it down to the left of Takumi’s
glass. Upon setting the glass down, he noticed Natsuki’s fragrant smell from her smoking.
VOX stood for Valors of Xiels. It was a name Katsuya came up with. Naturally,
Kato was in command, while Takumi and Natsuki supported, and gave their advice when needed.
Natsuki smiled. “I haven’t heard from Kat tonight, though. Think he is still at the
lab with your brother, Kato?” She took the two glasses and took them to the back room.
“Possibly. You know Kat, though; he calls at the oddest times.” Kato stretched,
“By the way, you have a good sent of smoke. I can smell the fragrance on your body.
Takumi may be used to it, but remember I don’t spend the night with you, so the smell is still noticeable to me.”
Kato’s brother Makoto was very good with technology and worked with Katsuya
at the Takoshida family labs. Unlike Kato, Makoto was not present at the time of his parents’ murder. But after that day, he stayed with the Takoshida family, and both he and Katsuya strove to help out in any way they could.
Natsuki returned, laughing playfully. “Come now, you know I always smoke my
dear. Give thanks that I don’t smoke anything wretched or anything that gives a foul stench to our lovely house.”
Kato’s V-Kom began beeping. “That’s got to be Katsuya. Only he would call at
such a time.” He pulled the device from his pocket. He pressed a small button from the top face-plate. As he swung it open, a holographic image began emerging. “This is Kato, talk to me, Kat.”
A man’s face could be seen. He wore dark red sunglasses and had curly white
hair. He spoke in an earnest tone, “Kato, where are you currently located?”
“We’re at the usual place,” Kato replied.
“Ahh, so you are at Tsuki’s place then. Well then, all of you can hear this. An
Anti Rebel Mercenary Saints group have showed up near the Fountain District. Currently, you’re located in the Quartz District, so you’re pretty far from the location. I don’t know why they’re attacking that area, but while your brother was scanning the city, he picked up on the disturbance via satellite.”
Takumi scratched his chin, “Well, it would be some good exercise for the night.
We have been laid off for a couple of days, so it’s a good time to just get ourselves in gear.”
Natsuki nodded her head in agreement. “Would be good for me to join up with you guys again. Besides, now that I am closing the bar earlier, I can help out more often. I am sure there will be some days where I won’t be around to open up. I brought in some pretty good wages over the past several months, so I can relax with the job for a while. Besides, I need the exercise as well.”
“So it’s settled then, Kat feed the info via V-Kom. We will let you know our
position once we get there.”
“Right, one more thing before you leaves. It seems like this group of ARMS
members are different. They’re not giving off the usual wave patterns. Each pattern given off is completely different then that of the normal group. I was analyzing the data fed to me by Makoto, and I couldn’t discern what was going on. Just be careful.”
“Alright then, Kato out. VOX members ready for take off.” He closed the V-
Kom, noticing the time. Placing the device back in his coat pocket, he spoke once more. “Natsuki, you ready to head out? It’s already 9:00, and getting towards the Fountain District is no easy chore.”
“Dear, I am always ready. Ready and willing to rise to the occasion.” She smiled
alluringly as she walked around the counter.
Takumi laughed, “Well at least she speaks the truth. Well then, let’s head out.”
Kato walked through the glass doors and towards his Souler, preparing to
take off.
Takumi followed, walking towards his Souler parked next to Kato’s.
Natsuki passed through the doorway, “Takumi, did you bring the key like I
asked?”
“Of course.” Takumi reached down his right coat pocket, pulling out a small
silver key.
“Thanks hon.” She took hold of the key, placing it within the keyhole. As she
locked the door, she looked back at Takumi, winking. She passed the key back towards Takumi. “Sorry to make you go through the trouble, hon. I forgot it this morning. I knew I could count on you, though. I need to head around back so I can get my Souler. Meet me there, alright?”
Takumi took hold of the silver key, placing it back within his pocket. “Alright
then, doll, will do.”
Kato smirked, “Let’s do it.
Natsuki circled around the building, walking towards the back of the bar. She
stopped at a sky-blue colored Souler, resembling those of her comrades. She sat down on the leather seat, bringing her left leg around. As she fastened her body in position to ride, the sounds of Soulers could be heard coming from the side of the bar.
Kato and Takumi appeared in front of Natsuki. Kato spoke calmly, “Time to go
then. Is everyone ready?”
Takumi nodded his head. “Everything is a go here.”
Natsuki took hold of her bike handles, pressing her left foot against the pedal.
She reached next to her screen, opening a small compartment that held a pack of Azure Ashes and a sky blue lighter. She took a cig out and placed it into her mouth. She reached for the lighter, pressing the button on the top left. The lighter gave out a bright blue flame. She brought the lighter towards her cig and set it aflame. As she smoked, the sent of sweet iris petals mixed with lavender filled the air. “Ready and willing.”
Azure ashes were Natsuki’s favorite cigs. She always had a pack lying around
and loved the smell that they made.
Kato smiled. He spoke with a tone of pride. “Alright then, members of VOX,
Let’s move out.” Kato sped forwards.
Both Takumi and Natsuki spoke, “Right.” They followed behind Kato.
The night sky grew thicker and thicker, as the chilly air tore through the sky. As
the three of them rode through the night; the loud engines of their soulers could be heard from a great distance, mixed with the sent of Azure Ashes in the air. They sped through the dark streets, moving steadily towards their destination.
